Bristol Urban Adventure Challenge

Established since 2004, the Bristol Urban Adventure Challenge is the most popular activity we offer especially for Stag & Hen and Corporate groups. Lots of fun, very rewarding and always competitive, The Challenge is guaranteed to get your group buzzing!

This unique activity with team work in mind is based around elements of treasure hunting, problem solving, adventure racing and urban orienteering. It combines physical, mental, initiative and team working skills. Think The Crystal Maze meets The Krypton Factor meets Challenge Anneka (if you can remember!). This activity has been specifically designed to be all inclusive and is suitable for people of all ages and fitness.

The Bristol Urban Adventure Challenge is conveniently set around Bristol’s historic Harbourside and other interesting areas in close proximity.

Undertaken on foot (and also by canoe depending on the chosen activity format) the Challenge involves two or more teams competing against one another in order to solve clues and score points. Are you up for the Challenge?

Add an additional physical activity into the game for even more Adventure! The Urban Challenge can be run on it’s own or with one or more optional additional physical activities.

Rafting

The Urban Challenge can be run on it’s own or with one or more optional additional physical activities. The most popular physical element to include is a water based activity such as Canoeing, Bell Boating or Raft Building. Whilst on the water the competition continues with races and games all generating additional points for the teams. Our Team Building & Problem Solving games are also an excellent addition to the game. All these additional physical options take place directly from our Harbourside base where we start and finish the rest of the Challenge. It is also possible to include various other physical elements into the day such as the high ropes course, climbing, abseiling, mountain biking etc. These all take place at different venues located no more than a 10 minute drive away from our Harbourside base.

Bristol Urban Adventure Challenge - Team building

The Bristol Urban Adventure Challenge is conveniently set around Bristol’s historic Harbourside and other interesting areas in close proximity. We have divided this area in to a number of different zones. The Challenge involves two or more teams competing against one another in order to identify and navigate to as many of these zones as possible by using maps and clues given in their game pack. Within each zone are a series of challenges, problems, conundrums and task that teams must try to solve in order to score points. There are many varied elements to the game each requiring different skills and abilities. Challenges include: Decision making – Teams need to plan and think quickly and logically in order to maximize their chance of obtaining a high score and beat other teams. Problem solving – Crack codes, answer cryptic questions and work out solutions to challenges. Utilise your team’s skills and abilities wisely! Navigation & observation – Requiring teams to use maps and game pack to navigate around the various challenge areas whilst trying to complete the given tasks. Optional physical challenges – Popular additional challenges include Canoeing, Bell Boating, Raft Building and our Team Building and Problem Solving games. Above all the aim of the Challenge is to have fun!

Bristol Urban Adventure Challenge - Team

Arrival Meeting at our Harbourside base (or other venue as arranged) we will introduce the activity and organise your group into teams if not already done so. Teams of between 4 – 6 is usual but we’ll liaise with you beforehand with regard to numbers and desired game format. Briefing With game pack in hand, teams are briefed on the important elements of the Challenge. Planning, decision making and communication skills are key! Remember the 7 P’s of planning! Time spent now could be beneficial later. We will give you all of the relevant key timings for the game dependent on your chosen activity format. Game on! Teams depart and attempt to navigate to as many zones as possible within the given time. Zones located further from the start generally score more highly than the closer ones but do require more time and effort to get to. How you attempt the challenge is up to you! Checkpoint challenges Where appropriate we may include optional ‘Checkpoint Challenges’. These will comprise of a game or puzzle to be attempted at a given location and time in order to score bonus points for the team. Cut off time! Teams reconvene at the given finishing time and location in order to calculate final scores and announce winners. Don’t be late back as there are penalty points deducted for latecomers! Final scores! Most groups finish in the waterfront pub adjacent to the base. Here we will calculate final scores and announce the much awaited results. Win or lose we guarantee that your group will have great fun seeing Bristol from a very different perspective!

Really good fun, especially the canoeing as me and my group have been a lot but the  games made it different. Well organised and everyone enjoyed themselves. Thanks again for helping to make my girlfriends 30th birthday so special.

    Dear Iain,
Thank you for yesterday, the staff and girls had a great time, so much so that I would like to make a booking with you for Sunday 11th September for the Urban Challenge, would that be possible?
    Best wishes.

Thank you for the great afternoon on Saturday, we all really enjoyed it.
I can’t believe Happy Hens lost by so much – of course we say that we let Jacs’ team, Headless Hens win. Thanks for all your help in the run up to the afternoon – we would definitely recommend it.
